Over the weekend...

Goodies from Bluebird Vintage. (the shop) (the blog)

Happy Monday folks! How was your weekend?
Good here. We made the trip to Ikea (it's only 30 minutes away, I'm not sure why I make in sound like such a voyage)...I wanted to get a flokati rug, but I was less than impressed with theirs. I'm not sure if it just needed a good combing or what...but for now, I think I will keep looking. Of course I'm comparing it to my mother-in-law's rug...which is probably ridiculous, because hers is super sweet, expensive, and she got it for free. Anyhow- we wound up getting this pendant lamp to go above our dining table. My ultra- skilled husband crawled through the attic on Saturday to install new wiring for it. It's hung, and it looks perfect. Now we just have to patch the ceiling where we took out our pocket lights. We rounded out our weekend with grub from this place...omg, they make the most amazing turtle brownies...I can't wait to try to re-create them.

love love love Friday...

It's Friday!!! Hoorah! The kiddos are off to Grandma's house and that means date night for the hubs and I...what we will do??? Actually after we drop them off we are headed to Ikea (much easier to fit more loot into our van without all the carseats). I finished a stack of pillows yesterday, and now I need few accessories from the big blue box. After that, ice cream from our favorite parlor. Sweets with my sweetie!
Have a great weekend...

on pillow making...

Last weekend our inlaws brought us a patio set. It's cushions are dark green...which is good, anything too light and it'd never stay clean in our busy backyard. I've decided to make some cushions to break up the sea of green though. I already had some fabrics on hand that I love + a quick trip to JoAnn's yesterday...( I scored the fabric on top, 2 yds. of solids, matching threads, and 5 pillow forms for $32, gosh I love a sale!) They're not outdoor fabrics, but they will be stored when not in use, so it won't matter. I can't wait to lounge around out there, lemonade in hand! Our daffodils are popping up, so it won't be long now...

In the sun...

Happy to be outside.

In my life, these outdoor settings are pretty impractical, but one can dream right? With two little girls whose favorite summer pasttime is digging for worms, white furniture and loads of need-to-be -washed textiles probably aren't the best option for me. We spent the weekend filling our garden beds. Six cubic yards of dirt, one wheelbarrow at a time. Exhausting. On today's agenda...do as little as possible.

on warmer days...

Don't you just love this photo? The tall grasses and flowers with a little table tucked in for a tea party...I can see the girls crawling through the grass looking for bugs and picking the blooms by the handful. I've been offline and outside for the past few days... Raking last years' leaves and having lunches around the picnic table. Yesterday we handled some very important business. We turned in Rylee's application for school of choice. That's right, my big girl starts kindergarten this year. She was beyond excited to be inside the school and of course, to catch a glimpse of the playground. We will know in a few weeks if she gets in or not. Selection is via a lottery system, so we're keeping our fingers crossed. There was a giant piece of artwork hanging in the hallway that the kids had collaborated on...she was very intrigued by that, insisting that she was going to LOVE school!

Signs of life...

Backyard budding

Friday was an unseasonably warm 64 degrees! We put on our mud boots and stomped around in the backyard, scouring the flower beds for signs of life. We managed to find a few things pushing their way out of the soggy earth. The rest of the weekend was spent indoors, as we had tons and tons of rain. Cannot wait for summer!

City vs. country

Can you see all these rooms nestled inside a turn-of-the-century farmhouse? I can. If it were my own home, I might have to hold back on the chippy paint just a bit, and inject a few more modern touches...but it does look very homey, no?
Have any of you given up the city for country life?
